Spelling: Students continued to make Words to Learn lists from words missed on the last spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on making connections as a reading strategy.

Writing: We talked about different types of endings for stories today. Some ways to end stories are with dialogue, action or visual details. Another way is to end the story with a question to make the reader think.

The next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Friday, December 14. Students should be drafting at this point.

Math: None today due to Bring a Family Member to School Day. See pics and vids here.

Science: We talked about how body systems are needed work together in order for a human or animal to function.

Social Studies: We started to learn about how exploring the New World led to people settling here. Homework is to finish Notebook p. 27 of not done in class.

Writing: Students formed new writing groups focusing on areas of improvement based on the last writing piece.

The next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Friday, December 14. Students should be prewriting at this point.

Math: We practiced drawing pictures and writing equations to solve division problems. Homework is to finish Journal P4-7.

Science: Students completed an activity about how all body systems work together when completed everyday activities. Homework is to finish the Systems Working Together activity if not completed in class.

Social Studies: None today due to viewing the book fair.

Reading: None today due to working with partners to review and discuss the prompt writing. Partners compared the writing to a checklist to look for areas of strengths and areas to improve upon.

Writing: We talked about a “big picture” lead, which is a lead that gives the reader an overall idea of who the main character is, what the character wants, and what the problem is.

The next piece of writing, a fiction piece, is due Friday, December 14. Students should be prewriting at this point.

Math: We continued to practice dividing using the standard method of division. Today, we focused on division problems with a zero in the answer. Homework is to finish Journal P4-6.

Science: We used this time to discuss the prompt writing mentioned above.

Social Studies: None today due to our math skills time.
