Class activities for Monday, November 12
Spelling: We reviewed forming and taking apart contractions. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Students started practicing reading a selection from their Literature Circles book that they will read as a monologue to the class. This monologue gives students practice with reading aloud with proper speed, tone and volume.
Writing: None today due to our time with technology.
The next piece of writing, a fiction story, will be due on Monday, November 26. Students should be drafting by now.
Math: We played a game to review for tomorrow’s math test about multiplication. A practice test can be found on math book pp. 86-87.
Science: None today due our math skills time.
Social Studies: We finished learning about four important events in Europe that motivated explorers to come to the New World:
- Muslims were defeated in Spain and the Catholic Church grew;
- Spain sent Christopher Columbus to share the Catholic faith and look for riches;
- Protestant Churches formed when Martin Luther protested against the Catholic Church and started the Reformation;
- Protestant England defeated Catholic Spain and the Spanish Armada. England later sent explorers to maintain their power and wealth in the world.
