Class activities for Wednesday, January 23

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to extra time with science. We’ll have extra time with Literature Circles tomorrow.

Writing: We started a new writing project today. The next piece of writing will be a literary essay (here’s an example). Students will select a book or story and write an essay to share their thoughts about a theme or big idea from the story. The essay is due Friday, February 8.

Math: We practiced multiplying two decimals. Homework is to finish Journal P6-6.

Science: We completed a simulation to model a clinical trial. Students use the taste of some yellow lemonade to simulate a headache. Then they drank some pink lemonade to simulate the medicine. If the pink lemonade tasted better, that meant the headache was gone, if it tasted worse, them side effects showed up, and no taste difference meant no change in the headache. Homework is to finish the Analysis questions 1-4 on pp. A14-15.

Social Studies: We learned about the hardships and successes of the Plymouth colony. Homework is to finish notebook p. 36.
