February 5th, 2013
Class activities for Tuesday, February 5
Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.
Writing: We talked about how the ending of an essay should restart the theme or big idea, and then include some type of connection or what the writer has learned from the book.
Students also continued to draft their literary essay project.
The next piece of writing, a literary essay (here’s an example), is due Friday, February 8. Homework is for students to finish their essay draft tonight if not done already.
Math: We practiced using number sence to place decimals in quotients. For example, the problem 12.4 / 3.2 has the digits 3875 in the answer. Using estimation, the problem is 12 / 3, which equals 4. Since the answer has to be near 4, the correct place to put the decimals would be 3.875. Homework is to finish Journal P7-3.
Science: We finished reading about clinical trials and the placebo effect. Homework is to finish the analysis questions on pp. 19-21.
Social Studies: None today due to our math skills practice time.
