Class activities for Friday, December 12

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading skills and AR practice day.

Writing: We had a shortened writing time due to art.

A fiction story is due Monday, December 15. Your student should be publishing at this point.

Math: Students practiced math skills using Khan Academy.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: Students worked on a district life science assessment today.

Social Studies: None today due to our math skills practice time.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to the late-start schedule.

Writing: None today due to art.

A fiction story is due Friday, December 12. Your student should be editing at this point.

Math: Students practiced math skills using MobyMax.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We talked about the analysis questions from “The Pellagra Story” activity. Homework is for students to finish analysis questions 1-6 on pp. 9-10. These questions were discussed in class. We also talked about how poorly the class performed on the last science homework. For the Save Fred activity, 17 people did not finish the homework, and the class average was a 58%. This new unit is middle-school-caliber work, and it requires more effort. Please check with your student to see if they are being responsible to complete this work.

Spelling: Students made Words to Learn lists from words missed on the last spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked about writing the right ending that makes a story feel finished. Endings can end with a question, an action detail, some dialogue, or a visual detail. Students also worked on editing.

A fiction story is due Friday, December 12. Your student should be editing at this point.

Math: We practiced checking if an answer is reasonable. Students also practiced math skills using MobyMax Math.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We continued an activity about a scientist that discovered the cause of the disease, Pellagra, by using scientific methods and completing an experiment.

Social Studies: None today due to visiting the holiday shop.

Math: Students started working on division skills today.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We started an activity about a scientist that discovered the cause of the disease, Pellagra, by using scientific methods and completing an experiment.

Social Studies: We played a game to review information about famous explorers.
