Class activities for Monday, May 2

Monday, May 2nd, 2016

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a short reading skills practice day due to art.

Writing: Our next piece of writing is a collection of poems. We talked today about the ingredients of a poem:

  • Imagery: visual details a reader can picture
  • Music: a sing-songy rhythm or beat
  • Emotion: a feeling the reader gets while reading the poem.

A poem doesn’t have to have all three of these “ingredients,” but should have at least one.

A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 20.

Math: We started our topic on fractions and decimals today by practicing equivalent fractions. There are a lot of fractions and decimals skills, and our goal is to finish by the end of May. Working at home each night would help your student finish on time.

Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: We predicted what things a plant needs to live; soon we will test our predictions by experimenting with plants.

Social Studies: We started our last topic of the year–geography. We reviewed the names of the seven continents. Students also received a map of continents to label. Homework is to finish the Label the Continents note page.
