Class activities for Monday, November 19

Monday, November 19th, 2018

Spelling: We practiced spelling compound words today. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. 

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students worked on revising conferences and revising today. A fiction story is due Sunday, November 25. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be finished with their draft and revising by now.

Math: Students worked on estimating products today. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We started our final chapter about how to help cecropia trees get more water through the soil.

Social Studies: We started to learn about the Columbian Exchange, which is the name for how goods and ideas moved back and forth between Europe and the New World.

Character Strength: We are learning about gratitude again this week.

Friday, November 16th, 2018

Spelling: None today due to the half day schedule.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays. Today’s assignment will be due Monday.

Reading: We read some of a biography of John James Audobon.

Writing: Students worked on revising today. A fiction story is due Sunday, November 25. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be finished with their draft and revising by now.

Math: Students worked on multiplication today. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today due to the half day schedule.

Social Studies: We worked on a review of Spanish explorers. Homework is to finish the Key Ideas, Got It, and Quiz if not finished in class.

Character Strength: We are learning about gratitude this week. We made gratitude notebooks today with the goal of writing some things in it each day until Thanksgiving.

Thursday, November 15th, 2018

Spelling: We practiced spelling words with consonant blends, such as street, stood, and state.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: None today due to the half day schedule.

Writing: We talked about making characters seem real using realistic dialogue. We also talked about how to write complete scenes with some talking, some action, and some visual details. Students also started revising today. A fiction story is due Sunday, November 25. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be finished with their draft and revising by now.

Math: We reviewed how to multiply numbers that end in zeroes. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: None today due to the half day schedule.

Social Studies: None today due to the half day schedule.

Character Strength: We are learning about gratitude this week.

Reading: We used our reading time to finish reading about Spanish explorers in our social studies book.

Writing: None today due to the half day schedule. A fiction story is due Sunday, November 25. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: None today due to the half day schedule. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We used evidence to support the claim that the cecropia trees in our project area are not healthy due to not having enough water.

Social Studies: We finished reading about how Spanish explorers searched for treasure, didn’t always find it, but did find new land for Spain.

Reading: We visited the book fair today and also practiced reading skills using MobyMax Reading Stories.

Writing: We talked about using dialogue to make characters seem real. Students also worked on drafting today. A fiction story is due Sunday, November 25. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.

Math: Today was our last class work day for decimal addition and subtraction. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We read about how scientists argue when they make claims and try to prove them with evidence.

Social Studies: We read more about how Spanish explorers reached North America and started settlements.

Character Strength: We are learning about gratitude this week.
