Class activities for Thursday, April 4

Thursday, April 4th, 2019

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: We read an informational text about how chemical reactions create something new and happen every day around us.

Writing: Students continued to collect research today. The I-Search informational research project is due Friday, April 26. Homework is for students to continue to collect information from books and websites.

Math: Students worked on algebraic thinking or other skills today in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We read about chemical reactions and wrote notes in our notebooks. Here is the reaction we tested in class using baking soda, calcium chloride, and phenol red.

Social Studies: None today due to the Read-a-Thon.

Character Strength: We are learning about humor this week.

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Students worked on MobyMax Reading Stories and Reading Skills Literature today.

Writing: Students continued to narrow down their topic for our next writing project, the I-Search informational research project. Students continued to research their topic using books and websites. Students will share their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference at the end of April. Homework is for students to continue to collect information from books and websites.

Math: Students worked on the unit test for the algebraic thinking topic in Khan Academy. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We used a simulation to learn that mountains can push water vapor higher so that it condenses and rains on the mountain. This causes one side of the mountain to receive a lot of rain, and the other side to be drier.

Social Studies: Students complete a digital review and quiz about slavery. Homework is to finish the Key Ideas, Got It and Quiz if not finished in class.

Character Strength: We are learning about humor this week.

Monday, April 1st, 2019

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Students worked on MobyMax Reading Stories today.

Writing: Our next writing project is the I-Search informational research project. Students will be researching a topic and sharing their research as a digital presentation during our I-Search Conference at the end of April. Homework is for students to think of interesting information topics they would like to learn about.

Math: We worked on comparing two patterns to find the relationship between them. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We used a simulation to learn that the upper atmosphere is very cold and that helps water vapor to condense into rain. We also learned that wind and mountains affect where water vapor moves in the atmosphere.

Social Studies: We finished reading and writing notes about slavery in the American colonies.

Character Strength: We are learning about humor this week.
