Class activities for Monday, February 1

Spelling: We reviewed the there/their/they’re homophones.

Cursive: Cursive pages 49-51 are available and due on Friday.

Reading: Students started working on reader’s theatre plays to practice reading fluency and to share their book with the class. Also, January’s Don’t Break the Chain form is due tomorrow for everyone participating in the contest.

Writing: Students checked out a book at the library to write an essay about. They should have read the book and started prewriting their essay. Homework is to finish prewriting the literary essay.

A literary essay will be due Friday, February 12; here’s a sample and here’s an example essay we wrote together.

Math: We practiced multiplying 3-digit by 1-digit numbers today. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:

Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: We reviewed our last experiments about measuring weight and mass. We wrote notes in our minibooks about similarities and differences of weight and mass.

Social Studies: We looked at the mission of several government agencies to see what public goods and services they offered. Homework is to finish writing notes for at least four more agencies on the public goods and services note page from class.wrote notes about ways an economy can change and started learning about public goods and services provided by the government.
