Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on using context clues as a reading strategy.

Writing: Students created their adventure websites today and started working on the home page that tells the reader who the main character is.

Our current writing project is a Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook. Students are writing a fiction adventure story with choices that the reader can make. Each choice can change how the story turns out. Students will publish their adventure as a website at sites.mrhowd.com. See below for more details.

This project is due Friday, January 22. Students should drafting at this point. Get some ideas below or right here. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes and to continue writing on the home page about the main character.

Math: We practiced breaking apart large number to multiply them. For example:

• 4 x 345 can be broken apart into
  • 4 x 300 = 1200
  • 4 x 40 = 160
  • 4 x 5 = 20
  • Adding the partial products results in the answer.

Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: We finished reviewing our last experiment about states of matter. We learned that solids have a definite shape and size, liquids have a changing shape but a definite size, and gases have a changing shape and size.

Social Studies: None today due to our reading skills and AR practice time.

Social Studies: January 6 is Dia de Reyes, the Day of Kings, in Mexico and Latin America. Students left their shoes next to their desk and the Kings brought them a gift (fruits snacks).
