Class activities for Thursday, November 3

Spelling: Today was a review of upcoming spelling words.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 30-32 are available and due Friday.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students completed a story to a writing prompt today.

A slightly fictionalized personal narrative is due Monday, November 7. Students should be publishing at this time.

Math: We reviewed finding rules and patterns in geometric figures.

Science: Students worked on a experiment about lighting a bulb with only one wire and one battery. Homework is to finish the Sparky’s Light Kit experiment of not done in class.

Social Studies: Students read an ABC News article about supply and demand of video game consoles and highlighted economics ideas in the article. Homework is to finish highlighting and labeling the article.

Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 30-32 are available and due Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some students worked on making inferences using clues from a text.

Writing: Students worked on editing conferences today.

A slightly fictionalized personal narrative is due Friday, November 4. Students should be editing at this time.

Math: We practiced finding rules and patterns in geometric figures, such as stacks of blocks. Homework is to finish Journal P2-5.

Science: We talked about how magnets are attracted to compasses, magnetic objects and iron filings. The magnetic force of a magnetic appears as lines when the iron filings are placed near a magnet.

Social Studies: None today due to Reading and Math Skills time.

Spelling: We reviewed common spelling patterns for the /k/ sound. This will be the skill tested on the next spelling test.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 30-32 are available and due Friday.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles. Students also completed an informational reading test.

Writing: None today due to time with technology.

A slightly fictionalized personal narrative is due Friday, November 4. Students should be editing at this time.

Math: We learned about finding rules for patterns in data tables. Homework is to finish Journal P2-4. Students also completed a STAR Math test today. As shown below, our class has made a great improvement in math since September! Great work, everyone! Take a look at the rest of our Data Center!

Science: None today due to a scheduled Math Facts practice time.

Social Studies: We reviewed how price changes with supply and demand.

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Spelling: We learned the correct usage of among and between: use among with three or more objects, and use between when there are only two.

  • The cookie was shared between John and Maria.
  • The cookie was shared among John, Maria, and Jason.

Cursive: Cursive pp. 30-32 are available and due Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on visualizing as a reading strategy.

Writing: We talked about fixing spelling errors by looking around the room for the word, asking someone else, writing the word different ways, and looking in a dictionary.

A slightly fictionalized personal narrative is due Friday, November 4. Students should be revising at this time.

Math: We learned about finding patterns in data tables. Homework is to finish Journal P2-3.

Science: Today was a Physical Education and Nutrition lesson about healthy meals. Students also tried some pumpkin dip and apples.

Social Studies: Students worked on a cause and effect organizer about the price of strawberries after a hard freeze. Homework is to finish the organizer if not done in class.

Class activities for Friday, October 28

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Today was our Hawaiian Beach Bash! Students surfed, put on Hawaiian shirts, threw frisbees, tossed foam noodles, ate pineapple slices, chewed on lemons and limes, had a hula-hoop contest, and danced to the Beach Boys! Later, it was Hawaiian pizza, Capri Suns and fruit kabobs! Thanks to all the families that helped with food, donations, decorations, games, setup and cleanup! Our party was totally tubular because of everyone’s help! Look for pictures and videos soon.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students completed revising conferences today.

Math: None today due to our Hawaiian Beach Bash.

Science: Students made oobleck (corn starch mixed with a little water). We noticed that oobleck sometimes acts like a solid, and sometimes acts like a liquid! Creepy!

Social Studies: None today due to our Hawaiian Beach Bash.
