Class activities for Wednesday, May 18

Spelling: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

Writing: We talked about using repetition in poetry to create music to the reader. Students also worked on revising conferences today.

A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 20.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting mixed numbers today. Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes. We are trying to finish our fractions unit by this week. Fractions skill progress has been updated in StudentVue if you want to see how your student is doing and if they have any missing skills to work on at home.

Science: We planned experiments today to test what plants need to survive.

Social Studies: We worked on geography skills using MobyMax Social Studies today.

Reading: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

Writing: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

Math: We practiced rewriting improper fractions and mixed numbers today. Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes. We are trying to finish our fractions unit by this week. Ask your student how they are doing with their fractions skills, and if they are behind, it might be helpful to have them work at home this week.

Science: None today due to the math M-STEP test.

Social Studies: We worked on geography skills using MobyMax Social Studies today. Many students were practicing finding the relative location of the US.

Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on determining importance and inferring as reading strategies.

Writing: We continued to work on our poem collection today.

A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 20.

Math: We practiced adding and subtracting fractions today. Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: We sorted animal, plant, and human activities into similar categories to learn that living creatures use their energy to grow, reproduce, maintain their health, repair, eliminate waste, and move.

Social Studies: We worked on geography skills using MobyMax Social Studies today.

Class activities for Thursday, May 12

Spelling: None today. We’ll be having a spelling test next week.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays. This week’s will be due on Monday due to the field trip.

Reading: None today due to the M-STEP science test.

Writing: We learned about how to write a fragment poem today. Here’s an example from a past year. The idea is to write a poem using short fragments, one on each line, instead of writing long lines or sentences.

A collection of poems will be due Friday, May 20.

Math: We didn’t have much time today due to getting ready for our Mackinac trip. Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.

Science: Today was the final part of the M-STEP science test.

Social Studies: We started labeling US landforms on a map.
