From the McGrath Partnership:

The Scrip program will be starting up again Monday, November 3rd and orders will need to be submitted that morning.  Scrip is a great way to make money towards student’s individual field trip accounts.  Scrip is simply a term that means “substitute money.” At McGrath, Scrip fundraising is a no-selling program that allows families to raise money directly for their student by using gift cards, or scrip, to pay for everyday purchases. More information on Scrip can be found on McGrath’s webpage – click the Scrip tab at the top of the page.

Spelling: We used letter cards to practice spelling different words, including words with soft-syllable /er/ endings.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on forming questions as a reading strategy.

Writing: Students began editing their current writing piece.

A personal narrative, slightly fictionalized, is due Friday, October 31. Your student should be editing by now.

Math: Students completed a STAR Math test today and practiced math skills using MobyMax.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We thought about how many systems work together during daily activities. Homework is to finish the Systems Working Together activity.

Social Studies: We started to learn about the tools that helps explorers to sail, and the reasons why they wanted to come to the New World.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked about how details can be used to change the pace of a story. For unimportant parts, a writer can move the story along by leaving out details. For the important scenes, adding talking, action, and visual details can slow a scene down and let the reader picture it better.

A personal narrative, slightly fictionalized, is due Friday, October 31. Your student should be nearly done revising by now.

Math: Students worked on a STAR Math test today.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.

Science: We wrote notes about the reproductive system today. We also started thinking about how different body systems work together. For example, muscles move bones, and bones give muscles something to attach to.

Social Studies: We worked as a class and in teams to learn more about important vocabulary words related to the the Age of Exploration when the New World was discovered.

Writing: We talked about using consistent verb tense when writing. Most stories are written in past tense. Few stories are written in present tense. Whichever tense is chosen for a story, the important thing is to be consistent and use the same tense throughout.

A personal narrative, slightly fictionalized, is due Friday, October 31. Your student should be finished with their draft and starting to revise by now.

Math: We reviewed for partner math test tomorrow about adding and subtracting decimals (chapter 2). A practice test can be found on math book pp. 58-59.
