    • Read-a-thon fundraiser to collect donations from family and friends.
  • What’s included: Travel by bus, admission to both forts, carriage tour, lunch at the Grand Hotel, dinner on the way home.
  • What’s not included: Breakfast; souvenirs, snacks or gift shopping. Each student is responsible for these things, if desired.

Allergy Information

Due to the large variety of the Grand Hotel lunch buffet, there are a number of options for individuals with dietary restrictions. According to the Grand Hotel, “It is the responsibility of each individual student and the accompanying adults to ensure that students do not take from selections of the buffet where their allergen is present, as there are many other sections where their allergen is not present.” The wait staff is knowledgeable about what is on the buffet and are able to assist those with questions. Click here to see a general menu of lunch buffet options.

If someone would like a plated meal prepared in the kitchen, the Grand Hotel is willing to do so. However, ordering a plated meal and then eating from the buffet will result in being charged for both the buffet and the uneaten plated meal.

If you would like to order a plated meal, please contact me and I will direct you to the appropriate contact at the Grand Hotel. Note that if a student has an airborne allergy they are not permitted to enter the Main Dining Room.

Behavior Expectations

Students earn the privilege to attend this field trip by following the “High Fives” and working hard during the school year.  Unfortunately, students who continually choose to not follow the “High Fives” receive office referrals.  Students who receive three office referrals, starting in the third marking period, may lose their privilege to attend the field trip.  Our school’s hope is that every student will earn the right to go and not miss out on this wonderful experience. Students that lose the privilege to attend the trip will serve an out of school suspension on the day of the trip.

The meter to the right displays the number of chaperones signed up for this field trip with a reserved bus seat. A waiting list will be started if there is enough interest in bus seats opening up. If they do not, chaperones are welcome to carpool, and the bus costs will be deducted from the cost of your trip. Contact me if you would like to chaperone this trip. As this trip is usually quite popular, a $50 deposit can hold your seat. Note that chaperones will need to have an approved volunteer profile on file with the office. If you haven’t filled out the volunteer profile in the past, please submit one to the office with a copy of your driver’s license.

Current Fundraising Level

More Details:

  • Refunds may be issued for families requesting them; however, the bus costs are nonrefundable. For 2017-2018, the bus costs per individual are $35 and cannot be refunded, unless there is another person available to fill the seat.
  • The bus is leaving at 6:00 am from the McGrath parking lot.
  • Students and chaperones will be meeting in the cafeteria at 5:45 am. (Don’t worry, they can sleep on the bus!)
  • Students are welcome to bring electronics on the bus, but they will be responsible for the devices.
  • The buses may have a DVD player on them. Students are welcome to bring movies to show on the bus, but the movies must be rated G; games must be rated E and music must be appropriate for school.
  • Snacks are welcome on the bus.  We are not scheduling any stops on our trip so students may want to bring a snack in case they get hungry.  With us leaving so early, it is going to be a long time until lunch.
  • Breakfast will not be provided. However, the cafeteria will pack breakfasts for students that purchase them before the trip.
  • Students are welcome to bring spending money for souvenirs or snack purchases.
  • Students may bring a camera during the trip, but other electronic devices will be secured on the bus.
  • We are taking charter buses so there will be a bathroom on each bus.
  • The weather might be cold, windy or rainy.  So please have your child dress appropriately in layers. (Consider a t-shirt, long shirt, sweater, coat, mittens, and a hat)  If they get warm they can always take something off.
  • We will have pizza delivered to the buses on the way home.
  • Please be at McGrath before 11:30 pm to pick your student up at the conclusion of the trip. For the last several years, we have gotten back early, and in that case, you’ll receive a phone call letting you know.
