Class activities for Wednesday, June 6

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Spelling: We used spelling time for a group to share a poster about the dangers of marijuana. There will be no more spelling activities for this year.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.

Reading: None today.   

Writing: Students worked on their class newspaper articles, which are due into portfolios this Friday, June 8.

Also, students will share a few of their poems at our Poetry Slam at Borders tomorrow. Chaperones are needed and family members are welcome to attend.

Math: We reviewed adding and subtracting fractions, multiplying and dividing decimals, and area and perimeter. Homework is to complete puzzle pages 51 and 52 about area and perimeter.

Science: We learned about how water moves in the enviromment, including gutters, downspouts and storm drains.

Social Studies: None today.

Class activities for Tuesday, June 5

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Spelling: We used spelling time for a group to share a poster about the dangers of tobacco. There will be no more spelling activities for this year.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.

Reading: We used this time to continue our discussion of the math warmup and the tobacco poster.    

Writing: Students worked on their class newspaper article, which is due into portfolios this Friday, June 8.

Also, students will share a few of their poems at our Poetry Slam at Borders this Thursday. Chaperones are needed and family members are welcome to attend.

Math: We reviewed converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers, learned how to add and subtraction fractions, and started to practice comparing fractions. Homework is to complete 20 addition and subtraction fraction problems from a worksheet, to complete eight problems written on the back of the worksheet, and to sort fraction cards as instructed on Journal p. 213. Students started all of these assignments in class and they’re homework if not finished.

Science: We reviewed the water cycle and made diagrams.

Social Studies: None due to extra math time.

Class activities for Monday, June 4

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Spelling: We used spelling time for a group to share a poster about the dangers of inhalants. There will be no more spelling activities for this year.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.

Reading: Groups planned their Literature Circles project to share their last book with the class.   

Writing: Students worked on their class newspaper article, which is due into portfolios this Friday, June 8.

Also, students will share a few of their poems at our Poetry Slam at Borders this Thursday. Chaperones are needed and family members are welcome to attend.

Math: We reviewed converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. Homework is to write five improper fractions and five mixed numbers, and convert them into mixed numbers or improper fractions.

Science: We reviewed solids, liquids and gases, as well as melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation.

Social Studies: None due to technology.

Class activities for Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1

Friday, June 1st, 2007

Spelling: Yesterday, students worked on their spelling worksheets. Today, students completed a spelling test. The unit 11 spelling worksheets will be due Monday are available here.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words are due each Friday.

Reading: Yesterday was a reading day in Literature Circles; today was a discussion day.  

Writing: Yesterday and today, students finalized their collection of poems, which were due into portfolios today. We will share our poems at our Poetry Slam at Borders next Thursday. Chaperones are needed and family members are welcome to attend.

Math: No math yesterday due to attending the Wizard of Oz dress rehearsal. Today, we practiced converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers.

Science: Yesterday, students created water cycle melodramas to act out the water cycle. Today, students made posters to communicate the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, cocaine, marijuana and inhalants.

Social Studies: None yesterday or today.
