Class activities for Tuesday, February 10
Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on determining importance as a reading strategy.
Writing: This week, students are continuing to work on their Choose Your Own Adventure fiction stories, created on a website at sites.mrhowd.com. This story is due February 13. An example of the Choose Your Own Adventure genre can be found here and here.
Ask your student to show you their Choose Your Own Adventure story, and even click through their choices to see how the story is going!
Math: We started a peer coaching activity to review concepts from the last MiniQuiz over fractions, decimals and ordering decimals.
Science: Students used water to dissolve salt in a salt and sand mixture. Then they filtered out the sand. Finally, we boiled the water to get the salt back. Thus, we separated a mixture of salt, sand and iron filings.
Social Studies: Students wrote “I’m Talking Michigan” poems using what they learned about the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Click the link for an example.
