Spelling: None today due to our I-Search Conference.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to our I-Search Conference.

Writing: Today was our I-Search Conference! Everyone did a great job and was dressed for success! We had a large audience and many interested questions. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Abdella (our assistant superintendent), spoke about everyone learning what they like and becoming good at it.

Math: Students completed a multiplication MiniQuiz today.

Science: None today due to our I-Search Conference.

Social Studies: None on Fridays.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Students previewed and selected their new Literature Circles magazines.

Writing: Students worked on their I-Search presentations  using Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com).

Math: We reviewed rounding and then practiced powers of 10. Homework is to finish Journal p. 141.

Science: None due to extra time with writing and Social Studies.

Social Studies: Students completed a MiniQuiz about the characteristics of a market economy. We also learned about circular flow: money flows from people to businesses, then back to people.

    Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

    Reading: The final reading group performed their Literature Circles play today.

    Students also received their last STAR Reading level score. As you can below, our class has passed our yearly reading level! Ask your student if their reading level improved on their last STAR test.

    Writing: Students worked on their I-Search presentations  using Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com).

    Math: None today due to extra time with Social Studies.

    Science: None due to library.

    Social Studies: We reviewed and took notes about the characteristics of a market economy:

    • private citizens and businesses own land, tools and factories;
    • incentives make people buy, sell and do things businesses want;
    • the consumer is king and businesses sell things they want;
    • people have their own special skills and jobs;
    • people choose when to buy and sell; and,
    • stores compete for business and customers.

    Spelling: Today was a preview of upcoming spelling words.

    Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

    Reading: Three groups performed their Literature Circles plays today.

    Writing: Students worked on their I-Search presentations  using Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com).

      Math: Students practiced the standard method of multiplication. Homework is to complete a multiplication review page, using any method to multiply.

      Science: Students compared a plant, and animal (Bess beetle or millipede) and a book, and looked for similarities or differences.

      Social Studies: We learned about some of the characteristics of a market economy.

      Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

      Reading: Students practiced plays to share their Literature Circles magazines with the class.

      Writing: Students worked on their I-Search presentations  using Google Docs (docs.mrhowd.com).

      1. Week 1: Collect research
      2. Week 2: Select research, plan presentation, start draft of presentation
      3. Week 3: Finalize presentation, present at our I-Search Conference

      Math: Students completed a multiplication MiniQuiz. We also talked about the standard method of multiplication.

      Science: We looked at our plant tests on Day 7 and compared to our Day 0 images. We noticed these things:

      • Excess heat = plants were less healthy
      • No heat = plants were less healthy
      • No air = inconclusive
      • No water = plants were less healthy
      • No light = plants were less healthy
      • No soil = plants were less healthy

      Social Studies: None on Fridays.
