Class activities for Wednesday, October 3
Spelling: We learned that understanding Latin root words can help understand English words. The Latin word vocare means “to call.” This root shows up in the words vocation, provoke, advocate and voice, all words that are involved with speaking.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences of seven or more words each are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading and discussion day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on questioning, determining importance and visualizing as reading strategies.
Writing: Students worked on revising conferences today.
The next piece of writing, a personal narrative, will be due on Friday, October 12. Students should be revising at this point.
Math: We practiced solving word problems by drawing pictures and writing equations. Homework is to finish Journal P2-5 started in class.
Science: None today due to an extra time with reading.
Social Studies: We started to learn about how different American Indian groups made different kinds of clothes, shelter and tools using the natural resources they could find in their environment. Homework is to finish Notebook p. 15.
