Class activities for Monday, October 28
Spelling: We practiced reading and understanding homographs today, which are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings and possibly different pronunciations. Here are some examples:
- The bandage was wound around the wound.
- The farm was used to produce produce.
- The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
- We must polish the Polish furniture.
- He could lead if he would get the lead out.
Can you find the homographs?!
Reading: Today was a Literature Circles discussion day.
Writing: None today due to our technology time.
The third and last piece of the marking period is a slightly fictionalized personal narrative, due Friday, November 1. Your student should be finished with their draft and revising at this time.
Math: Students used MobyMax to work on math skills today. Students have been working on addition, area, multiplication, shapes, and volume. Check your students progress to see what they’ve been working on by going to shortlinks.mrhowd.com/mobymax and logging in to the parent portal using your students email address and birthdate.
Science: We reviewed our recent experiment about using magnetic objects, a compass, and iron filings to find hidden magnets in a box. We also learned about how a magnetic field takes the shape of lines that can be seen using iron filings. The field lines can be seen in this video of the sun.
Social Studies: We learned about more features of a market economy. We’ll write notes and complete a MiniQuiz tomorrow.
