Class activities for Monday, November 25
Spelling: We practiced identifying homophones today, which are words that sound the same, but have a different meaning and spelling. Examples: shown/shone, chews/choose, through/threw, witch/which.
Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 46-48 are due Monday.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: Students started prewriting for our next piece of writing by creating a table with three columns in their document. Students could prewrite by planning the beginning, middle, and end, or the people, places, and problems of the story.
Our next piece of writing is another fiction story, due Monday, December 16. Your student should be prewriting at this time.
Math: We practiced identifying the value of a digit ( in the number 734, the 7 is worth 700). We also talked about how each place value is 10 times larger than the value to the right (the hundreds place is 10 times more than the tens place, and the tens place is 10 times more than the ones place). Journal P3-2 is the corresponding journal page. We also worked on place value today using Khan Academy.
Science: Students finished testing materials to discover conductors and insulators. Homework is to finish final notes on this experiment.
Social Studies: We started learning that incentives motivate people to make choices, and there are positive and negative incentives. Homework is to finish the Incentives and You notes page started in class.
