Class activities for Thursday, November 21

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 43-45 are due Friday.

Reading: None today due to practicing for the fourth grade musical.

Writing: Students worked on editing conferences today.

Our current piece of writing is a fiction story, due Monday, November 25 (new date). Your student should be editing at this time.

We have been working on this writing piece for three weeks, but some students have a very small amount of work done. You might want to check with your student and have them show you their current writing piece. If three weeks worth of work isn’t evident, this weekend would be a good time to catch up. And it would take more than an hour. If a student works just 15 minutes a day at school, and again at home, that adds up to 6 hours of work. And that’s just a minimum amount. A quality piece of writing would take more like 8 hours. Some students might need to put in 6 hours of work this weekend.

Math: None today due to practicing for the fourth grade musical.

Science: We learned that open circuits are disconnected and don’t let electricity flow. Closed circuits are connected and the electricity can flow. Switches can be used to open and close circuits.

Social Studies: We learned more about how supply, demand, price and competition are connected. Students read and commented on an article about these ideas. Here’s the article. Take a look at the comments and feel free to add some of your own ideas or reply to your student’s comments!
