Class activities for Monday, February 3

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 66-68 are due Friday.

Reading: None today due to extra time with science.

Writing: We talked about different ways to organize evidence for a literary essay:

  1. First, second, last…
  2. In the beginning, in the middle, in the end…
  3. One character, another character, a final character…

Students continued to draft their literary essay. Here are the main parts of a literary essay:

  1. Introduction with the name of the book, summary, and the theme of the book
  2. At least three examples from the book that support and prove the theme
  3. A conclusion that restates the theme and what can be learned from the book

A literary essay is due Friday, February 7. Students should be finishing their draft at this point.

Math: Today was a math work day in Khan Academy. Some students continued to work on a test about addition and subtraction.

Science: We learned about how states of matter can change into other states. Solids melt into liquids, liquids evaporate into gases with added energy. Gases condense into liquids, liquids freeze into solids when energy is removed.

Social Studies: We learned how outsourcing is the moving of jobs out of a country. Outsourcing changes an economy and can happen due to changes in technology, natural resources, or competition.
