February 10th, 2014
Class activities for Monday, February 10
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 69-72 are due Friday.
Reading: Three groups performed Literature Circles Reader’s Threatre plays today.
Writing: We started working on our next writing project, which will be a persuasive essay. This week, we’ll review core democratic values that can be used as part of a student’s argument in their essay.
The persuasive essay will be due Friday, February 28.
Math: We practiced multiplying using partial products. For example, to multiply 36 x 5, the 36 can be separated into 30 + 6. Those parts can be multiplied by 5. The problem becomes 30 x 5 = 150 and 6 x 5 = 30. Add the parts back together for the answer, 150 + 30 = 180. Journal P5-3 corresponds. Students also practiced math using MobyMax. Many students are working on area, perimeter, or partial products at the moment.
Science: Students completed an experiment about measuring the volume of colored liquids using a graduated cylinder to make a color spectrum when mixed (here are some pics of the experiment). Homework is to finish the “Color Spectrum” experiment if not done in class.
Social Studies: None today due to art. We’ll have an economics test this week.
