Class activities for Monday, November 3
Spelling: Students practiced sorting words ending in –er based on meaning.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on visualizing as a reading strategy.
Writing: We talked about adding details to slow the pace of an important scene, or removing details to speed up a scene that is not important to a story.
Our next piece of writing, a fiction story, is due Friday, November 21. Your student should be prewriting by now.
Math: We practiced using mental math to solve multiplication problems. Students also used Khan Academy to practice multiplication or other math skills.
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: Today we started to learn about genetics by looking at how different people have different traits.
Social Studies: We learned that several problems in Europe in the 1400s acted as push factors causing explorers to leave for the New World.
