Class activities for Thursday, December 4
Spelling: We reviewed common spelling patterns for the /k/ sound: co, ca, cu, k. Some others are qu, and ck.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: Student worked on revising today. We also talked about organizing writing so that the reader knows what type of story they are reading. For example, if the story is a fantasy story, it should be clear to the reader from the beginning that there will be creatures and magic. If the creatures and magic don’t show up until the middle, the reader will be surprised and the story won’t be as believable.
A fiction story is due Monday, December 12. Your student should be revising at this point.
Math: We practiced using mental math to divide by 10s and 100s. Students also practiced math using MobyMax Math.
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: None today due to extra time with math.
Social Studies: We finished writing notes about famous explorers that helped create settlements in the New World.
Bring a Family Member to School Day: Thanks to all the family members that visited our room today. We decorated for our upcoming Mexican Fiesta by making papel picado (punched paper) decorations, and paper poinsettias and popcorn garland for our arbolito (little tree).
