Class activities for Wednesday, February 18
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading skills and AR practice day.
Writing: Students finalized persuasive essay topics and started to prewrite these parts of their essay:
- Introduction describing a public policy problem in America (vaccines, fighting ISIS, body cameras for police officers, healthy foods for schools, etc.).
- Their opinion about a solution to the problem.
- Some kind of data to support their opinion.
- At least one core democratic value to support their opinion.
- A conclusion restating their data and opinion.
Homework is to finish prewriting and begin writing the draft letter. A persuasive Letter to the Editor (guidelines) about a public policy issue facing the US will be due Friday, February 27.

Math: Students finished working on the STAR Math test begun yesterday. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy, and to work on MobyMax FactMaster for 5 minutes.
Science: Students worked on an experiment about measuring the speed of a moving cart. Homework is to finish the speed and average speed calculations and to record in the data table in their science notebook.
Social Studies: None today due to extra time with writing.
