Class activities for Thursday, May 14
Spelling: We practiced homophones and words that have ie/ei spelling patterns.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Students completed a STAR Reading test today.
Writing: Today, we talked about how students can write poems about small, insignificant moments. Not all poems have to be about big, weighty ideas. For example, a student can write a poem about a kitten stalking, hunting, and pouncing on a piece of fuzz.
Students also continued to work on their collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.
Math: We worked on fraction skills today in MobyMax Math.

It would be helpful for students to continue working on these skills at home if they haven’t had enough time in class to master them.
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy, and to work on MobyMax FactMaster for 5 minutes.
Science: We started to learn about how ocean tides are related to the moon, and extreme tides seem to be connected to certain phases of the moon. Homework is to finish analysis questions 2-3 on p. 54.
Social Studies: We learned about how the Declaration of Independence was written and voted on. Homework is to read pp. 168-171 and to finish the reading notes about Thomas Jefferson on slavery. We’ll also have a MiniQuiz about the Declaration of Independence tomorrow.
