Class activities for Monday, March 28
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: None today due to Eagle Talk and discussing class behavior with our last guest teacher. Here are some issues were trying to work through:
- Some students are uncooperative with guest teachers. Students named by guest teachers will be asked to spend some of their recess time planning a better result for the next time.
- Some students are generating a lot of complaints from other students. We talked about cooperating with others more, and if a student asks someone to stop something, they should say, “Okay, I can do that.”
- Some students are making complaints without doing the necessary work of talking about the problem with the responsible party. I’ve asked students to make me “plan B.” Plan A is to go to the person directly and talk about the problem. Most problems should be solvable without anyone else knowing about it. I’m here to help with repeat or unsolved problems.
- I’ve notified students who are being difficult that they maybe required to make and complete a kindness journal recording acts of kindness toward other students.
- We also going to try to select students to give STAR Awards to other students to point out good characters seen in our class.
- Hopefully we’ll see an improvement after taking these steps.
Writing: Students worked on finishing up their novel project. Our current project is our final fiction piece of the year. Each student has a daily writing goal of 150-300 words. The novel project is due Wednesday, March 30. Your student should be about 100% by now and revising or editing.
We also discussed our next project, called the I-Search Project. This will be an information research project about a topic of each student’s choosing. Students were asked to think of some topics and try to have one selected by Thursday.
Homework is work on writing for at least 15 minutes.
Math: Students worked on Khan Academy division skills or other math skills today.
Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.
Science: Students worked in their groups on the Space Fashion Show (more details and a sample script). The Space Fashion Show is our final project of our space unit. Students are working in groups to write a fashion show script that tells about the sun, moon, or earth (click here to find your student’s group script). One student from each group will “model” a costume of the sun, moon, or earth. The Space Fashion Show is Wednesday, March 30 at 10 am. Family members are invited!
Social Studies: Students completed a MiniQuiz today about federal and state powers and what our government is like.
