Class activities for Wednesday, September 14
Spelling: Students completed a spelling pretest today. We’ll have spelling tests every few weeks in class this year. There will be no weekly spelling list, but there is a yearly spelling list. Spelling tests include at least 20 words from the Core Word list. Your student can get a jump start on the words by practicing words from the list. You can learn more about how spelling works here.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Friday.
Reading: We previewed a website will using for reading sometimes this year called Epic! Books.
Writing: We talked about how all stories have three main ingredients:
- People
- Places
- Plot
Students also used Google Drive to make a document and then started prewriting for their personal narrative by making a list of the people, places, and plot of their story. Homework is to finish prewriting if not done in class. The first piece of writing, a personal narrative, will be due on Friday, September 23.
Math: We practiced reading and writing large numbers today using place value. Students also practiced place value skills using MobyMax Math today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or something else.
Science: None today due to art.
Social Studies: None today due to art.
Notes:
- The Chromebook Informational meeting is Thursday, September 15 at West Middle School. There are two times. Here are forms for students and parents to sign.
- Students will need a pair of earbuds this year. Something inexpensive will be fine. Earbuds are preferred over large headphones that are hard to store and usually more expensive to replace.
- Check out our class calendar to stay up-to-date.
- View links to all the websites we use in class.
- View grades, assignments, and attendance at JupiterGrades.
Our Mission:
All students in Room 130 will do their best and get ready for 6th grade.
