Class activities for Monday, January 9

Spelling: We reviewed use of the their/they’re/there/theirs/there’s homophones. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays. 

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on visualizing and determining importance as reading strategies.

Writing: We talked about how students should be able to type at least 100 words each day at school and at home. For this project, that amounts to an entire scene of talking, action, and visual details. If a student types at least this much at school and home each day, they shouldn’t have a problem finishing writing projects.

Students continued to draft their adventure stories. Our current writing project is a Choose Your Own Adventure fiction gamebook. Students will write a fiction adventure story with choices that the reader can make. Each choice can change how the story turns out. Students will publish their adventure as a website at Google Sites. See below for more details.

Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes. Your student should be drafting at this point.

Math: We practiced decimal multiplication again today. Homework is to practice math for at least 15 minutes using MobyMax Math or Khan Academy.

Here are some Khan Academy topics we are working on right now for a one more school day:

Science: We read about the circulatory system. Homework is to finish the Efficient System note page started in class.

Social Studies: We about how the geography of the English colonies determined why types of jobs settlers had and where the settlements were built.
