October 5th, 2017
Class activities for Thursday, October 5
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 10-12 are available and are due Friday.
Reading: We read more about earthquakes today. Today was also a reading day in Literature Circles. Students read silently and wrote down questions, connections, important passages, and illustrations that they thought of while reading.
Writing: We talked about using strong verbs to help a reader picture the action better. Students also worked on revising today.
A personal narrative is due Friday, October 13, and the minimum length is one page. Your student should be revising by now. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes.
Math: We talked about solving division facts by multiplying instead. For example, to solve 10 / 5, just ask, “What times 5 is 10?” Students also worked multiplication and division skills in MobyMax Math today. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: Students read about space with a guest teacher using MobyMax Science.
Social Studies: Students read about government with a guest teacher using MobyMax Social Studies.
Character Strength: We are learning this week about Perspective.
Notes:
- Have you helped your student plan a Daily Homework Time? This is a daily (Monday through Thursday) time of 40 minutes for students to work on math, writing, math facts, cursive, or other homework. Maybe it’s right after school, or at 5 pm, or right after dinner. The idea is that your student is working each day on something to make them smarter. Here is a sample schedule and more ideas.
