Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 19-21 are available and are due Friday.

Reading: This is a reading skills week. Students worked on MobyMax Reading Stories today.

Writing: We talked about writing moment by moment action, instead of skipping over a lot of action details. We starting writing a scene as a class with moment by moment action. Here’s what we wrote together:

I was walking down the street to my grandma’s. I turned the corner and saw a creepy house. It had holes in the roof and the windows were cracked. The door was hanging by one hinge. On the roof, I thought I saw a shadowy figure. It made me shiver. But I was so tempted to explore this eerie dwelling.

I crept down the driveway toward the steps. When I got closer, I noticed it was dimly lit, and I could barely see the door. I saw some lights flickering inside the windows.

I stepped on the stairs, and one of them broke. My foot fell into the hole and I felt something was touching my foot.

“Ow!” I screamed. “What has got my foot?”

I tried to pull my foot out of the hole, and my shoe came off. I bent down, reached my hand in to the hole, and I grabbed my shoe. I pulled it out of the whole and put it back on.

“What was down there?” I said. “‘I’m so glad I got my shoe back. My dad would ground me if I came back with only one shoe!” I said to myself.

Students also worked on drafting for a final day in class. A personal narrative is due Monday, November 6. Your student should be finished drafting tonight with about a full page. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes and to finish drafting.

  • Have you helped your student plan a Daily Homework Time? This is a daily (Monday through Thursday) time of 40 minutes for students to work on math, writing, math facts, cursive, or other homework. Maybe it’s right after school, or at 5 pm, or right after dinner. The idea is that your student is working each day on something to make them smarter. Here is a sample schedule and more ideas.
  • Check out our class calendar to stay up-to-date.
