Class activities for Tuesday, October 16
Tuesday, October 16th, 2018Spelling: None today due to extra writing.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.
Reading: We read a Time for Kids article the future of transportation. We also practiced rereading, especially rereading the first and last paragraphs to look for main ideas.
Writing: We watched a video about a person who tried to bake cookies, but didn’t take time to gather the correct ingredients. That’s a little like how writing works. If a writer takes time to make a list of ideas during prewriting, then it will be easier to follow that “recipe” and end up with a finished piece of writing. If a person doesn’t plan their writing, they won’t have the right ingredients and their writing will turn out half-baked.
Students also worked on prewriting, and there should have been enough time to prewrite the beginning, middle, and ending. A personal narrative is due Sunday, November 4. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes.
Math: We practiced moving the decimal in a number when multiplying or dividing by 10. Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy. Our class topic mastery is now up to 68%, with a goal of reaching 100% by October 20. We are getting closer! Check Jupiter to see your student’s mastery level.
Science: Students reviewed evidence and used it to write a scientific argument about why sloths and jaguars in our study forest weren’t growing and thriving. Homework is to finish notebook p. 28 if not done in class.
Social Studies: We read more about American Indian cultures today, include the roles of men, women, and children, and what their governments were like.
Character Strength: We are learning about integrity this week.
