Class activities for Tuesday, October 15
Spelling: We practiced writing words with long and short vowel sounds. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.
Cursive: Cursive pp. 16-18 are available and were due today.
Reading: We read an article about how even kids can help people in need and about some businesses that donated shoes and eyeglasses to kids in other countries.
Writing: We talked about how the main ingredients of a story are the people, places, and the plot. Those things can be used to prewrite a story by listing the characters, the places of the story, and the plot that happens in the beginning, middle, and ending.
Students continued to work on prewriting.
A “fictionalized” personal narrative is due Sunday, November 3. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes. Your student should be prewriting a list of ideas at this point.
Math: We practiced rounding word problems today. Homework on weekdays is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: We read and wrote notes about different types of sedimentary rocks and learned that different rocks contain different size pieces, were formed in different speeds of water, and were formed in different environments. The rocks give clues to the past. Homework is to finish p. 32 if not finished in class.
Social Studies: We finished reading about state and federal powers and wrote notes about the powers of different levels. Homework is to finish the How Does Government Affect Me page if not finished in class.
Character Strength: We are learning about integrity this week.
