October 22nd, 2019
Spelling: We practiced common spelling patterns for the long /i/ sound: igh, i, i-consonant-e, ind, y.
Cursive: Cursive pp. 19-21 are available and are due Friday.
Reading: We used this time to make some spooky pixel art to decorate our hallway for the Harvest Fest next week.
Writing: We talked about adding visual details for new characters, and more than just a word or two. Important characters might need a whole paragraph of visual details!
Students also worked on drafting today. Your student should be finished with the draft tonight and have about a full page.
A “fictionalized” personal narrative is due Sunday, November 3. Homework on weekdays is to work on writing for 15 minutes.
Science: We learned more about how lower rock layers were formed first and are older, and upper rock layers are younger because they were former later.
Social Studies: We wrote some notes about what would happen if the powers of the federal government were given to the states. We also started learning about how our government is organized into three branches. Homework is to finish the What If? page if not done in class.
Character Strength: We are learning about perspective this week.
