Class activities for Thursday, November 9
Spelling: We learned that homographs are words that are spelled the same, but have a different meaning and may have a different pronunciation. Can you read these homographs correctly the first time?
- Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present .
- A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
- When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
- I did not object to the object.
- The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
- There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
- They were too close to the door to close it.

Cursive: Cursive worksheet pp. 25, 26, 29 are available and are due Friday.
Reading: We started to read a drama about a frog princess today. Today was also a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: Students worked on prewriting conferences with a partner. Students also worked on drafting. Our next piece of writing is a fiction story due Monday, November 27. Your student should be drafting at this point. Homework is to work on writing for 15 minutes.
Math: We practiced rounding today at Khan Academy.
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: We wrote notes about moon phases. Students also started working on the Space Fashion Show (more details and a sample script). The Space Fashion Show is our final project of our space unit. Students are working in groups to write a fashion show script that tells about the sun, moon, or earth (click here soon to find your student’s group script). One student from each group will “model” a costume of the sun, moon, or earth. The Space Fashion Show is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, November 21 in the afternoon. Family members are invited!
Social Studies: We reviewed branches of the government and students wrote notes on a Time for Kids Branches of the Government page. Homework is to finish this note page if not done in class.
Character Strength: We are learning about Bravery for a second week.

- Have you helped your student plan a Daily Homework Time? This is a daily (Monday through Thursday) time of 40 minutes for students to work on math, writing, math facts, cursive, or other homework.
