Spelling: We reviewed common contractions today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays; this week’s assignment was due today.

Reading: None today due to finishing a presentation in Science.

Writing: Students continued to collect research for their I-Search research project (click here for more details).

Social Studies: We started a new unit on the Europeans arriving in Michigan. Students made new minibooks and started an Alphabet Soup organizer.

Reading: Students received new Literature Circles magazines today to practice informational reading strategies.

Writing: Students continued to collect research for their I-Search research project (click here for more details). We also went to the library today to locate books, and students created accounts on Bubbl.us to create mind maps and webs.

Math: Students continued to work on estimating sums. Math was shortened today due to an assembly on Alaska and sled dog mushing.

Science: The final two groups presented their Wicked Weather melodramas today and we took notes on how to stay safe in severe weather.

Reading: Mrs. Richard’s first grade class came to visit today for reading buddies. The class read to their buddies, and the buddies read back to their fourth grade partner.

Reading: The final group of students shared their monologue with the class, practicing volume, speed and tone.

Writing: Students were introduced to our next writing piece, the I-Search research project (click here for more details). This digital presentation is due Wednesday, April 29. Today, students were asked to write a question they would like to research, such as:

  • What would it be like to be / live / do…?
  • What would be different if…?
  • What are the best / worst / strangest / biggest / most amazing / weirdest…?
  • What are some reasons to…?
  • What are some reasons not to…?

Math: Due to art, math was limited to completing a MiniQuiz.

Science: None due to students completing a writing prompt piece for the McGrath Writing Committee.

Social Studies: We played a game to review for tomorrow’s test over the first people of Michigan.

Reading: Some additional students shared their monologue with the class, practicing volume, speed and tone.

Writing: Today was the final class work day for our Novel project. Most students printed their final novel. Students not finished were asked to finish this weekend and be ready to print on Monday. Congratulations to all students that achieved their word goals! What an accomplishment!
