Class activities for Tuesday, April 21

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Spelling: None today due to students moving to new seats.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on visualizing as a reading strategy.

Writing: Students continued to work on their digital presentation using MrHowd.com Docs (docs.mrhowd.com), and using Bubbl.us to organize their information into a plan to use for their presentation.

Math: We reviewed the lattice method of multiplication (more information here, here and here). Homework is to finish Journal pp. 131-133.

Science: Students reviewed yesterday’s experiment and learned that the moon is four times smaller than the earth.

Social Studies: We learned about the fur trade in Michigan and the construction of forts to protect the fur trade.

Spelling: Students completed a spelling test and skill test over irregular verbs.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on questioning as a reading strategy.

Writing: Students were shown how to start a digital presentation using MrHowd.com Docs (docs.mrhowd.com). They also started to organize their information into a plan to use for their presentation.

Math: We reviewed the partial products method of multiplication and started a miniquiz over this concept. The lattice method of multiplication was also introduced. Homework is to finish Journal pp. 130.

Science: Students completed an experiment today about the size of the moon compared to the earth. Homework is to finish the experiment worksheet and questions.

Social Studies: We reviewed French Explorers, took notes in our minibooks, and watched a two video clips about Father Marquette and the fur trade.

Spelling: We reviewed irregular verbs (was/am, thought/think, go/gone). On Monday, we will have a spelling test and skill test over irregular verbs.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Most students finished and published their novel to Lulu.com. To order a copy of your student’s book, search for their name at Lulu.com and purchase with a credit card. Note that it might be less expensive to have your student log in and order the book through their account.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We practiced writing questions to anticipate what the reader might ask. Students continued to collect research for their I-Search research project (click here for more details). Some students also started to make a mind map/web to organize their information, using Bubbl.us.
