Class activities for Friday, April 13

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: None today due to extra time with science.

Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students continued to plan and summarize their findings into a concept map using the Bubbl.us website.

This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be collecting information and planning their presentation.

Math: None today due to STAR Friday.

Science: We wrote notes in our minibooks to finish our learning of the sun, moon and earth. Students also started working on the Space Fashion ShowHere is more about this project, including a sample fashion show script. The Space Fashion Show will be on Friday at 10am in the small gym.

Social Studies:We made a baseball-themed spring showcase.

Class activities for Thursday, April 12

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Spelling: Students used letter cards to form words, focusing on words with suffixes.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Several students performed their monologues to the class, reading with speed, tone and volume.

Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students are collecting information from the internet and saving the information in Google Docs. Today, students also started to plan and summarize their findings into a concept map using the Bubbl.us website.

This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information to answer their research question at this point.

Math: Students practiced dividing three digit numbers today. They also reviewed solving multiple step problems. Homework is to finish Journal P10-8.

Science: We learned more about how the moon moves in space (it rotates and revolves once in about a month). Homework is to finish the earth and moon crossword if not done in class.

Social Studies: Students practiced identifying mystery regions and looking for what various regions have in common.

Spelling: Students worked on completing their Words to Learn lists by correcting words missed on the last spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Mrs. Kimball, our media specialist, taught a lesson about ebooks. Students can access ebooks from our school website using the link at the top right. Students can access the ebooks from any internet-connected computer by logging in with the last 5 digits of their student ID number, and using gb as the password.

Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students are collecting information from the internet and saving the information in Google Docs.

Spelling: None today due to our technology time.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Students continued to practice reading their selected monologue passage with speed, tone and volume.

Writing: Students continued to work on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students started to collect information from the internet and save the information in Google Docs.

We also learned that it is important to check facts found in books and on websites. Not everything in print is true. Ever hear of the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus?

This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information to answer their research question at this point.

Math: Students practiced dividing three digit numbers. Homework is to finish Journal P10-5.

Science: None today due to our math skills practice time.

Social Studies: We looked at some final mystery regions maps to see how the United States can be divided into regions using natural or human features.

Spelling: Students made Words to Learn lists by correcting words they missed on the last spelling test.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Students selected a passage from their Literature Circles book to read as a monologue to the class. They also  practiced reading aloud with speed, tone and volume.

Writing: Students are working on the next writing piece, the I-Search research project today. Students continued to collect information from the internet and save the information in Google Docs.

This informational project will be due Friday, April 27. Students should be looking for information (books and websites) to answer their research question at this point.

Math: We reviewed two-digit division and started to learn about three-digit division. Homework is to finish Math Book p. 237, problems 10-16, using the partial quotients method learned in class. Students may check their division using the standard method of division if they would like to.

Science: We learned that the earth rotates (spins) once in one day, and revolves (orbits) once around the sun in one year. Students were given a review crossword puzzle that will be due on Thursday.

Social Studies: We learned about different ways the United States is divided into regions, using land, water, climate or direction.
