Class activities for Thursday, October 24
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 31-33 are due Friday.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Cirlces. Some groups worked on making connections and visualizing as reading strategies.
Writing: We continued to talk about using precise nouns instead of general words that make the reader confused. If a writer uses a specific noun for a person, place, or thing, the reader will better understand what is happening in the writing.
Today was also a revising work day, and students started revising the beginning of their story.
The third and last piece of the marking period is a slightly fictionalized personal narrative, due Friday, November 1. Your student should be finished with their draft and revising at this time.
Math: Students used MobyMax to work on math skills today.
Science: We started an experiment about using tools and the science of magnetism to find hidden magnets. Students also completed a MiniQuiz about how a magnet’s force changes with distance and when passing through objects.
Social Studies: We continued to learn about the features of a market economy, learning today about these features:
- private property rights (people and businesses own the property, not the government)
- competition (businesses compete for consumers)
- voluntary exchange (people choose what to buy and sell, and businesses will sell what consumers demand)
- Yellow magnets: 1
- Orange magnets: 0
- Red magnets: 0
- STAR Awards: 0
- Magnets moved this week (goal: 9): 10
Check your student’s Personal and Social Growth grade online to see if your student moved their magnet.
