Class activities for Thursday, February 27

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Cursive workbook pp. 75-77 are due Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles. Some groups worked on questioning and making connections as reading strategies.

Writing: None today due to dealing with poor, selfish choices by some individuals in our class. We’ve spent too much learning time this week dealing with off-task behavior, wasted learning time, selfish choices, disregard for others, uncooperation, and unwillingness to correct. It’s unfortunate that a few poor choices are hurting the learning of others. We hope to make improvements in this soon so that poor choices don’t threaten our goal of getting ready for 5th grade. Ask your student what they think about this topic.

For today, though, no time was left for writing. Homework is to work on editing the current writing piece.

The persuasive letter project (more details here and here’s a checklist) is due Monday, March 3.

Math: Today we learned the standard method of multiplication, practicing with multiplying two-digit by one-digit numbers.  Students also practiced math skills using Khan Academy. Homework is to work on MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for 15 minutes or more.

Science: We learned that moon is 4 times smaller than the earth, and it is 30 earths away from the earth!

Social Studies: We learned about the purpose of our government that is written about in the Preamble to the Constitution.

Behavior Update:

  • Yellow magnets: 3
  • Orange magnets: 0

This is also part of your student’s daily homework time of 40 minutes, including math, writing, cursive, and other school homework. Reading 20 minutes for bed is a good idea, too!)
