Class activities for Wednesday, May 14

Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Friday.

Reading: Today was a MobyMax Reading practice day.

Writing: We talked about repeating words or lines in a poem to create music and show the reader what is important.

A collection of poems will be due Monday, May 19.

Math: We continued practicing fractions today. We used Khan Academy to practice three skills:

The Khan Academy servers were having, so some students many need to finish these skills tonight. We’ll also work a little more tomorrow on them.

Homework is to work on MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for 15 minutes or more, and to level up on the skills listed above if not done in class.

Science: Students took measurements for the Best Lettuce experiment we are working on, and we reviewed life needs for plants and animals.

Social Studies: Students worked on a district government assessment today.

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Friday.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: We talked about using white space and line breaks to group ideas on certain lines, or to group lines together, while leaving some lines that are more important by themselves.

A collection of poems will be due Monday, May 19.

Math: We continued practicing fractions today. We used Khan Academy to practice three skills:

Homework is to work on MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for 15 minutes or more, and to level up on the skills listed above if not done in class.

Science: We wrote notes in our minibooks about life needs of plants and animals. We also learned that plants and animals need a source of energy and a source of nutrients for growth and repair. Homework is to finish the Needs for Life Investigation Review that was started in class.

Social Studies: Students worked on a MiniQuiz about the Bill of Rights today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Friday.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups worked on chunking and using context clues to solve unknown words, and others work on summarizing as reading strategies.

Writing: We talked about using line breaks to group ideas and matching words on each line.

A collection of poems will be due Monday, May 19.

Math: We started practicing fractions today. We used Khan Academy to practice three skills:

Homework is to work on MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for 15 minutes or more, and to level up on the skills listed above if not done in class.

Science: None today. We are continuing to work on our plant needs experiments (photos here).

Social Studies: We finished learning about the Bill of Rights and how they protect Americans. There will be a Bill of Rights MiniQuiz soon.
