Class activities for Thursday, September 25
Spelling: Today was a spelling and skill test.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles; some groups practiced thinking of questions while they read and making connections to the text.
Writing: We reviewed important features of a narrative that we learned in 4th grade.
Good narratives have:
- a plot, characters, and settings
- visual details
- paragraphs
- scenes made of visual details, talking, and action
- an interesting lead that starts the story with talking, action, or visual details
Students also started their draft today. A personal narrative is due on Friday, October 10. Your student should be drafting at this time.
Students have been given a colored file folder to use as a writing portfolio for this year. Homework is to decorate the portfolio with clippings, pictures, or illustrations and to return it by Friday for lamination.
Math: We reviewed place value and decimals today. We’ll have a partner MiniQuiz tomorrow in which partners will work together to complete the quiz. A practice quiz (Chapter 1 test) can be found in the math book.
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: We started to learn about the circulatory system. Homework is to finish the “An Efficient System” review page.
Social Studies: Students completed a reading challenge to review for our upcoming test. We also played a game to review. The chapter 2 test about American Indian environments will be on Monday.
