October 2nd, 2014
Class activities for Thursday, October 2
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.
Writing: We talked about writing an interesting lead to hook the reader. One way to do that is to think of a waterfall. The brink of the waterfall is where the action of the story starts to get interesting. The lead should back up a little from the waterfall, but not too far away from the brink. Otherwise the story starts too slowing and the reader loses interest.
Students continued to revise their narrative. A personal narrative is due on Friday, October 10. Your student should be revising at this time.
Math: We practiced using mental math to add and subtract decimals. Students also practiced adding decimals using Khan Academy.
Here’s the skills we’ll be working on for the coming days. Maybe your student will have time to work on them at home:
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: We started to learn about the important parts of the respiratory system.
Social Studies: We learned about the Northwest Coast American Indian region and what artifacts could be found there.
