Class activities for Thursday, November 20
Spelling: Today we practiced forming words with common patterns for the /s/ sound, using letter cards to form the words.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Students began preparing to read a one-page monologue to the class from their Literature Circles book. This will give students a chance to practice reading with good speed, tone, accuracy, and volume.
Writing: We talked about how a symmetrical design in a story, where the beginning and the ending of the story have some things in common, can be an interesting way to organize a story.
Students also worked on publishing today. A fiction story is due Monday, November 24. Your student should be publishing by now.
Math: We reviewed the last partner math test about decimal place value, addition, and subtraction.
Here are some of the skills we’ve been working on lately. These would be good skills to practice at home.
- Multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits with area models
- Multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits
- Multi-digit multiplication
- Powers of ten
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: Students received new science books and notebooks today.
Social Studies: We started to learn about Christopher Columbus today.
