Class activities for Monday, November 24
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.
Reading: Students practiced and started performing monologues for the class today using good speed, tone, volume, and accuracy of spoken words.
Writing: We started another fiction story today. We also talked about how students can use lists and sublists to prewrite. Here’s an example:
Characters
- Jessica
- 11 years old
- sister to Jason
- Is brave and gutsy
- Jason
- 10 years old
- Brother of Jessica
- Is quiet and not as much of a risk-taker
The sublists below each character can help to make the prewriting more useful in planning a story.
A fiction story is due Monday, December 12. Your student should be prewriting by now.
Math: None today due to extra time with science.
Here are some of the skills we’ve been working on lately. These would be good skills to practice at home.
- Multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits with area models
- Multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits
- Multi-digit multiplication
- Powers of ten
Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy.
Science: We started our first experiment in our Studying People Scientifically topic. Today, students practiced using tools and different ideas to solve a problem. Homework is to finish the Save Fred experiment and analysis questions on p. A-7.
Social Studies: Students worked in teams to learn about additional explorers and how they lead to settlement of the New World.
