Class activities for Friday, May 22

Spelling: None today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a reading skills and AR practice day.

Writing: Today was the final day for students to work on their collection of poems, which is due today.

Math: None today due to a class meeting about gossip and hearsay. Some students and staff members have been complaining that some individuals in our class have been participating in spreading gossip to other people in the school, and it’s been causing problems. Students talked about how they have been hurt by this, and we talked about how students should be talking about helpful and positive things. We’ve been asked, in no uncertain terms, to immediately stop talking about people if they are not a part of the conversation.

It would be helpful for students to continue working on these skills at home if they haven’t had enough time in class to master them.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy, and to work on MobyMax FactMaster for 5 minutes.

Science: Students shared their group presentations comparing a fictional planet to earth.

Social Studies: Students completed a MiniQuiz about how the colonists won the Revolution against Great Britain.

Spelling: Students completed a spelling and skill test today.

Cursive: Ten cursive sentences, seven or more words each, are due on Fridays.

Reading: Today was a discussion day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Students completed editing conferences today and continued to work on their collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.

Math: We worked on fraction skills today in MobyMax Math.

Homework is to practice math for 15 minutes or more using MobyMax or Khan Academy, and to work on MobyMax FactMaster for 5 minutes.

Science: Students worked in groups to make a presentation comparing a fictional planet to earth. There will be a MiniQuiz tomorrow about tides and comparing planets to earth.

Social Studies: We reviewed how the colonists won the Revolution against Great Britain. There will be a MiniQuiz tomorrow about this topic.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Today, we read a poem about a black cat creeping down a city street. The poem had a lot of imagery and music. Some students thought of animals they could write peoms about. Students also continued to work on their collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.

Math: We worked on fraction skills today in MobyMax Math.

Spelling: We reviewed use of either/or and neither/nor today. We also practiced spelling words with long vowel sounds; this will be the skill tested on Thursday’s spelling test.

Reading: None today due to art.

Writing: Today, we read about a poem about a snow angel coming to life. The poem had a lot of imagery and also used line breaks to put matching ides on each line. Students also continued to work on their collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.

Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.

Writing: Today, we read about a poem about an eagle that used a rhythm, music, and imagery. We talked about how poems can be written about anything, even animals.

Students also continued to work on their collection of poems, due Friday, May 22.

Math: We worked on fraction skills today in MobyMax Math. With only three weeks left of school, I asked students to continue to use their school time wisely, and to also work at home so that they can finish practicing fraction skills by the end of the year.

Science: We learned that ocean tides are caused by the gravity of the moon and sun. We also learned that extreme tides are caused when the sun and moon are on the same side of earth (new moon) or on opposite sides of the earth (full moon) when the gravity can add to each other or pull against each other like a tug-of-war.

Social Studies: Students completed a MiniQuiz today about the Declaration of Independence.
