October 26th, 2015
Class activities for Monday, October 26
Spelling: None today.
Cursive: Cursive pp.16-18 are available and due on Friday.
Reading: Students completed a STAR Reading test today.
Writing: We talked about how an average amount of writing is 10 minutes a day at school, and 10 minutes at home. Even that small amount adds up to almost five hours of writing by the end of three weeks. A student that wants a better than average result should at least 15 minutes at school and at home writing. That adds up to about 8 hours of time over three weeks. That means a student can’t just wait until the end, work for an hour or two on the weekend, and have a quality piece of writing. Good writing takes time, and if your student works little by little at school and home, they will have time to do their best.
Students also worked on drafting their narrative today. This personal narrative is due Friday, November 6. Your student should have over half a page and be nearing the end of their story at this point.
Math: We practiced solving number stories by drawing pictures and writing equations. We used MobyMax Math to practice math skills today.
Here’s a skill we’ve been working on lately (and some students are struggling with) that your student could work on at home:
Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.
Science: We reviewed our last experiment about creating a compass.
Social Studies: We read a book about how money flows from people to businesses and back to people in a circular pattern. Homework is to finish the “Go Around Dollar” reading notes if not done in class.
