February 4th, 2016
Class activities for Thursday, February 4
Spelling: We reviewed digraphs today. This will be the skill tested on tomorrow’s spelling test.
Cursive: Cursive pages 49-51 are available and due on Friday.
Reading: Two student groups performed their reader’s theatre plays today to practice reading fluency and to share their book with the class.
Writing: We practiced using evidence to support a theme. Students also worked on explaining how the evidence from a text matches the theme.
Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.
A literary essay will be due Friday, February 12; here’s a sample essay and here’s an example essay we wrote together. Students should be nearing the end of their draft by now.
Math: Students practiced multiplying by one digit numbers today. Most students have finished this skill, but a few are still working on it. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:
Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.
Science: Students practiced measuring volume with graduated cylinders. Homework is to finish the Investigation Review page started in class.
Social Studies: None today due to our reading skills and AR practice time.
Notes:
- Our Feb Factor Valentine’s party is Thursday, February 11 from 9-noon. Here’s our volunteer list. We still need a few food items and volunteers to help with games.
- The Mackinac trip page has been updated with behavior expectations: students that have three or more office referrals starting in the third marking period may lose the privilege to attend the trip.
- Looking for a way to motivate your student to read at home? Try Don’t Break the Chain. It’s a simple way to building reading habits.
- Check out our class calendar to stay up-to-date.
- Visit our Links page: keep track of all the websites we use for learning, or try something new.
- View grades, assignments, and attendance at ParentVue or StudentVue.
Our Mission:
All students in Room 130 will do their best and get ready for 5th grade.
