Class activities for Wednesday, February 10
Spelling: We reviewed rules for when to capitalize today:
- For specific names.
- For specific places.
- For titles.
- For days of the week, months, holidays, but not seasons.
Cursive: Cursive pages 52-54 are available and due on Thursday.
Reading: Today was a reading day in Literature Circles.
Writing: Students edited their essays for periods, run-on sentences, capitals, titles, and indenting paragraphs. Homework is to work on writing for at least 15 minutes.
A literary essay will be due Tuesday, February 16; here’s a sample essay and here’s an example essay we wrote together. Students should be revising and editing by now.
Math: We continued to practice multiplying two-digit numbers using arrays at Khan Academy. Some students haven’t mastered this skill yet and might need to continue working on it at home. Here are some skills we’ve been working on lately:
Homework is to practice MobyMax Math or Khan Academy for at least 15 minutes.
Science: Today was a physical education and nutrition lesson about getting 60 minutes of exercise a day, getting rest from screens, and getting 9-11 hours of sleep.
Social Studies: We talked about what our school, community, and country would be like without rules or laws. Homework is to finish the Life without Laws notes page started in class.
Notes:
- Our Feb Factor Valentine’s party is Thursday, February 11 from 9-noon. Here’s our volunteer list. We still need a few volunteers to help with serving food and games.
- The Mackinac trip page has been updated with behavior expectations: students that have three or more office referrals starting in the third marking period may lose the privilege to attend the trip.
- Looking for a way to motivate your student to read at home? Try Don’t Break the Chain. It’s a simple way to building reading habits.
- Check out our class calendar to stay up-to-date.
- Visit our Links page: keep track of all the websites we use for learning, or try something new.
- View grades, assignments, and attendance at ParentVue or StudentVue.
Our Mission:
All students in Room 130 will do their best and get ready for 5th grade.
